Polyester plastic products are highly transparent and have excellent impact resistance, making them particularly suitable for forming thick walled transparent products. Compared to PC (polycarbonate), PETG/PCTG polyester plastics have the following outstanding characteristics:
1.PETG/PCTG is an environmentally friendly material
After combustion or degradation, only CO ₂ and water remain, which will not have any impact on the human body and environment! Especially with the strong promotion of environmental protection by the international mainstream, this environmentally friendly material has been favored by governments and consumers in various regions! PETG/PCTG will be strongly promoted for its environmentally friendly (FDA/ROHS/SGS certified) materials, which have been highly valued in many developed countries such as Europe, America, and Japan. This property makes many high-end cosmetics packaging increasingly inclined to choose PETG, and in the medical field, PETG sheets are gradually used for suction molding as internal support packaging, or injection blown into serum bottles, culture dishes, etc. to replace glass fragile products used at room temperature and low temperature.
2. Excellent optical performance
PETG/PCTG is a high transparency, high gloss surface, and low turbidity amorphous polyester plastic with a transmittance of ≥ 91%, which is the same as acrylic (PMMA) and better than polycarbonate (PC). Even when made into thick walled cosmetic cream bottles or transparent heels, it can be as transparent as glass.
3. Has extremely high toughness and excellent tensile resistance
PETG/PCTG can be considered as "unbreakable", it has super strength and toughness, and the tensile ratio of PETG/PCTG can reach over 180%. We have conducted two experiments: a drop ball impact on a 3mm thick PETG/PCTG board can rebound a 5.4kg ball; a 1kg ball can drop from 10 meters to a 3mm thick PETG/PCTG board without cracking.
4. PETG/PCTG has excellent impact resistance
Its impact strength is 3-10 times that of acrylic, much higher than ABS. According to customer testing, when PETG/PCTG is made into thin sheets, its impact resistance is slightly inferior to that of PC. However, when it is processed into thick walled products, its impact resistance is no different from that of PC. However, the outstanding advantage of PETG/PCTG is that its impact resistance at low temperatures is superior to that of PC. The characteristics of environmentally friendly materials also make its application scenarios wider.
5. Excellent low-temperature resistance
Although PETG/PCTG is not resistant to high temperatures and should be used below 75 ℃ for daily use, it can still be used normally at minus 40 ℃ because it has excellent ductility and super toughness, and is not easily deformed or cracked due to internal stress in low-temperature environments.
6. Excellent chemical resistance
In daily use environment, such as coffee, chocolate, grease, acid, etc., it also has excellent chemical resistance to the following chemicals: automobile oil, soap liquid, detergent, cleaner, carpet cleaner, toothpaste and peppermint oil, perfume, cooking oil, 2-propanol, hydrocarbon solvents, etc.
7. Infinite secondary processing performance
The excellent ductility has made multiple secondary processing methods of PETG/PCTG possible. You can perform laser cutting, edge milling, die-cutting, drilling, welding, punching, hot bending, cold bending (limited to 2.5mm or less), screw/rivet/bolt connection or fixation on PETG/PCTG products. At the same time, there will be no internal stress whitening in the cold bending part during testing.
8. Excellent printing and coating performance
That is to say, the surface of the product can be printed (silk screen, pad printing, hot press printing, etc.) and sprayed without any special surface treatment.
9. Excellent adhesive performance
There are various random bonding methods available, such as general solvents, general adhesives, friction bonding, high-frequency bonding, ultrasonic bonding, mechanical bonding (screws, rivets, etc.).
10. Excellent injection molding performance
Once PETG/PCTG is started and produced normally, the injection molding process is very stable, and there is no need for a specially designed injection molding machine. The injection molding temperature is only around 220 ℃~235 ℃.
Summary: As can be seen from the above, the current characteristics of this material make it more widely used in high-end products such as food, medical, cosmetics, etc. Its excellent environmental performance and various certifications (FDA/ROHS/SGS certification) will be a better choice among injection molding materials.
