Test method for oxygen resistance of plastic bottles used in cosmetic packaging
2024-03-04

As a cosmetic plastic bottle manufacturer, we are well aware of the importance of oxygen resistance in cosmetic packaging. Poor oxygen resistance may lead to oxidation of cosmetics, thereby affecting their quality and effectiveness in use. Therefore, it is crucial to test the oxygen resistance performance of plastic bottles used in cosmetic packaging. This article will introduce several commonly used testing methods to help cosmetics manufacturers choose suitable plastic bottle packaging.

1、 Why test the oxygen resistance performance of cosmetic plastic bottles

Cosmetics contain various easily oxidizable components, such as oils and active substances. If the oxygen resistance performance of packaging containers is poor, these components are easily affected by external oxygen, leading to oxidation and deterioration, thereby affecting the quality and effectiveness of cosmetics. Therefore, testing the oxygen resistance of plastic bottles for cosmetics is an important step in ensuring the quality of cosmetics.

2、 Common methods for testing oxygen resistance performance

Pressure difference method: The pressure difference method is a method of evaluating the oxygen resistance performance by measuring the oxygen pressure difference inside and outside the packaging container. During testing, seal the plastic bottle and place it in the testing equipment. Fill the container with a certain amount of oxygen, and then measure the change in oxygen pressure difference inside and outside the container. Based on the changes in pressure difference, the oxygen resistance performance of plastic bottles can be determined.

Gas transmittance method: The gas transmittance method is a method of evaluating the oxygen blocking performance of plastic bottles by measuring their oxygen permeability over a certain period of time. During testing, place the plastic bottle in the testing equipment, fill the container with a certain amount of oxygen, and measure the amount of oxygen that passes through the plastic bottle within a certain period of time. The oxygen resistance performance of plastic bottles can be determined based on the amount of transmittance.

Oxygen concentration method: The oxygen concentration method is a method of evaluating the oxygen resistance performance of plastic bottles by measuring the changes in oxygen concentration inside them. During testing, seal the plastic bottle and place it in the testing equipment to determine its oxygen resistance performance by monitoring the changes in oxygen concentration inside the container. This method requires a longer monitoring time, but it can more accurately reflect the oxygen blocking effect of plastic bottles.

3、 Selection of testing methods

Choosing a suitable testing method requires considering multiple factors, including testing accuracy, testing time, equipment cost, etc. For cosmetics manufacturers, they can choose appropriate testing methods based on the characteristics and needs of their own products. For example, for situations where it is necessary to quickly evaluate the oxygen resistance performance of plastic bottles, the pressure difference method or gas permeability method can be chosen; For situations that require longer monitoring time and more precise evaluation, the oxygen concentration method can be chosen.

Testing the oxygen resistance of plastic cosmetic bottles is an important step in ensuring the quality of cosmetics. By selecting appropriate testing methods, the oxygen resistance performance of plastic bottles can be evaluated, and suitable packaging containers can be selected to ensure the quality and effectiveness of cosmetics. As a plastic bottle manufacturer for cosmetics, we will continue to devote ourselves to the research and production of plastic bottle packaging with excellent oxygen resistance performance, contributing to the sustainable development of the cosmetics industry.
